Woodgate Valley Urban Farm is a Registered Charity which was set up on site
in 1988 by unpaid volunteers from the local community and it has operated, developed and maintained on that basis to this day.
It supports the community by offering hands on practical work experience for placements from certain local schools and colleges and also provides life skills training and confidence building in a supportive environment for individuals within our local community, in particular young people.
We are open every day for the general public, as casual visitors, to view and enjoy our livestock and also provide a resource for schools, organised trips and special needs groups whom we welcome following an advance booking.
Overall we provide an enabling and involving community resource allowing adults and children to experience rural activities in an otherwise urban environment, and gain a greater understanding of the need for and value of livestock.
We are a Registered Smallholding with DEFRA and a member of the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens.. Please note we are not a City Council provision
The Farm Bazaar
Our on-site fundraising Bazaar is open most Saturday afternoons, some Sunday mornings, each bank holiday (except Xmas) throughout the week during school holidays, and on our Open Day.
We have a choice of bric-a-brac, porcelain, collectables, curios, souvenirs, new and used childrens' toys, fishing nets, windmills, books (fiction, non fiction, biography and autobiography, children and teenage, specialist) household items, souvenirs, paintings pictures and various other new and nearly new items. Also indoor and outdoor plants and apples from our orchard - in season.
Unlike the Supermarkets, we cannot do a price check or make guarantees, but we reckon that we compete very favourably with the Hight Street Charity Shops!
Because we do not have overheads and salaries costs, 100% of the income from the Bazaar goes directly into the Charity's funds and is used exclusively to assist with the purchase of feedstuffs for the livestock.
Come and have a browse.
Donation of Goods
We are heavily reliant upon much appreciated donations of bric-a-brac, books, cuddly and all other toys, collectables, pictures, household goods, unwanted jewellery, and interesting items in a saleable condition to sell in the Bazaar for our funds. A full 100% of the takings go towards feeding the livestock.
When the Bazaar is closed, please take items down to the Farmyard (right-hand gate inside main entrance to the Urban Farm itself) Please we do not want TV's, Fridges, Computers or similar.
